Project Eclipse: Nov 4 Update

Today's car club showed a peak in attendance, with nearly twenty students ready to work...

We had two main jobs on the go. One was to continue on Project Eclipse. The other, one of our senior students led a team of grade tens to remove the bumper and wheel wells on his VW in order to replace the original headlight lenses with a cooler darkened shade set...

It's great to see students who have taken auto in the prior years, pass on their knowledge and leadership to younger students.

The team working on the undercarriage agreed it would be vital to remove the rear bumper skin in order to access more of the vehicle for sanding and undercoating...

Now with a big group of grade nines and tens cleaning and prepping the underbody of the Eclipse, Mr. DaSilva showed the suspension team how to reassemble the painted subframe with new stabilizer end links... Then the team went to work reassembling all the arms, links, spindles, rotors etc...

With brake pads and cables on order, the rear end is virtually ready to be raised into place next week.

The old rear end...
is new again...
and ready to raise into place...

While two other students begin sanding the bumper skins for paintwork, the rear coil overs will be painted, reassembled and reinstalled at the rear of the Eclipse, followed by our rear subframe.

Next week: we finish the rear end suspension and move on to the front end suspension!
It's great to see results of quality work from our students...
Have a great week from Mr. DaSilva and the car club. We'll see you next week!
