Project Eclipse: Sept 22 Update

Welcome back everyone!

Off starts the 2015-2016 year at Bishop Reding, and Car Club has begun its first session after school today.

We have a large turnout this year with over 25 members, ranging from grade 9 to grade 12 participants. This year proves to be exciting, especially with our continued efforts on the Bishop Reding School Spirit Car, we dub Project Eclipse.

After certifying all participants as passed the required safety testing, we were off to work on the car.

First, Mr. Da Silva would like to extend a much deserved thank-you to First Professional Collision and Paint for their very generous donation of a paint job for the Eclipse. With its shiny coat of jet black paint, this car is sure to turn heads... Here's a sneak peak at the paintwork...

We can't thank First Professional enough for their hard work and craftsmanship. The BR Spirit Car has already peaked the curiosity of every student in the parking lot!

We would also like to thank Atlantic Towing for their generous time transporting the car to and from the paint shop. They kept a good eye and gentle hand on the vehicle as it was taken away and brought back to our facility!

Now on to today's work....

With a short list of some much needed work to be done, we assembled some grade nine, ten and eleven Car Club members to make some adjustments and installations to the car.

First, we installed the carbon fibre rear spoiler onto the rear of the vehicle. The large wing serves as a neat accent to the Eclipse's graceful appearance and low stance.

Next, other club members sandblasted and assembled a full polished cat-back exhaust system onto the car so that it could reproduce a clean exhaust tone.

Car Club is not only meant for just the Spirit Car. Other students worked on their own machines or practised their in class work to improve their skills. Here, a senior SHSM student makes adjustments to her bicycle's drive gear.

We also had another student reseal a leaking tire on the Spirit Car to make sure we don't have a flat tire in the morning.

Now with the spoiler on, tire fixed and new exhaust on, the BR Spirit Car is coming along better than ever and looking great!

Check out the progress on Project Eclipse's entire rebuild here.

Next week, we will begin to design the interior of the Spirit Car's body, making way for the full audio video system.

From the Car Club and its members, have a great day, and see you next week!!
